Existe uma metodologia de estudo na qual separamos o objeto de estudo em partes e observamos cada parte deste objeto para então compreendermos o todo. Ao estudar uma das partes da comunicação entre pessoas identificou-se que quando duas pessoas compartilham as mesmas idéias se compreendem de maneira mais flexível. O que acontece nesta situação é que as pessoas compartilham sentimentos semelhantes neste momento. Posto que as pessoas se comunicam através de sentimentos então sem a compreensão do que o outro indivíduo está sentindo é muito mais complexo passar para ele nossas idéia, nossos objetivos. Dizem que empatia é a capacidade de entender as reações de outros se imaginando no lugar delas, por isso a tradução mais coerente para Rapport seria ?Empatia!?.
É muito comum confundimos empatia com simpatia, infelizmente em nossa realidade do dia-a-dia tentamos ser simpáticos e esquecemos de sermos empáticos! Esse é o sentido da palavra Rapport no portugüês, e a incompreensão da palavra Rapport é que nos faz sermos mal compreendidos e nos deixa sem saber qual o problema ocorrido que a outra pessoa ?simplesmente não gostou?. Ainda aproveito para lembrar que sermos compreendidos pode fazer parte do compreender, esta é uma maneira de começar a compreender os outros, se expressando de maneira que os demais lhe compreendam para então iniciarem a lhe descrever seus próprios sentimentos, esta técnica entretanto é melindrosa pois quem muito fala pouco houve, então ela deve ser utilizada com muito discernimento para que o emissor não fale demais.
